Synagogues and Study Halls
Materials from YIVO's Library and Archives related to Synagogues and Houses of Study
Bialystok had a widely varied Jewish religious life. Anchored by the Groyser shul (The Great Synagogue), there existed dozens of small synagogogues, Hasidic shtiblekh, Houses of study, and small minyans. For generations, Jews studied and prayed in these places until they were destroyed in the Holocaust. Among the materials in YIVO's archives are dozens of documents related to the synagogues and study houses of Bialystok. Here are but a few.
